To all my friends and contacts:
Multiply makes its money through advertising. As people click on pages and links, Multiply gets money from the advertisers' links and ads that are displayed on your pages.
There is a movement afoot to boycott Multiply for one entire day, that being this Friday, January 18th. This is to protest the recent changes made to forbid the sharing of music and also the limiting of music uploads. I am a customer as are you all. We deserve to be treated with respect.
While I understand that Multiply has a right to conduct its business as it sees fit, the manner in which it has made the changes is very poor customer service and frustrating to those of us who have invested many hours setting up our sites.
Let us send a message to Multiply: treat us like shit and we will affect your business model. We are your customers whether you want to treat us that way or not.
I will not be on next Friday from 12:01 AM to 11:59 PM (at a minimum). Would you care to join me?
(And for those who live in a different time zone, just do your own 12:01 AM to 11:59 PM. Let's make it go round the world.) | i'll put your link in my pages |
 | azaria611 wrote on Jan 14, '08, edited on Jan 14, '08 Just stay off from mid-thursday to mid-saturday your time, and they'll have a mass down time on traffic at one time. If everyone does that, there will for sure be a big period of time that they'll have no one on at all. |
 | boycott is the only solution..fuck for capitalism. |

If this is your last good-bye ( if they catch you ) I want you to know I have always enjoyed your writing, I remember you . I am hated....but if i showed up on their sites with the logo of your group (Macpg )or my Battle Cruiser.....they would still hate me LOL. if your caught, say you were hacked and wait till meal time--they drop their guard at meal time.......:) |

And thanks for the kind words I did not know you felt that way! I will make it known that one of their very vocal supporters is disgruntled at how they are handing things though and can and will rally the troops hehe! |
 | slvrdlphn wrote on Jan 15, '08, edited on Jan 15, '08 Why not take it up directly with them? Have you written to SERVICE yet? Is it taking them a long time to respond? I've found that if often takes them up to a week to respond to a direct inquiry, but they do respond. I have made some friends in the multiply office and I will forward your issue to them and hopefully they will have a response for you.
By the way, I found a "work around" to the music downloading thing. Just click on Play the Playlist and use windows media player to play the songs. To play them WMP creates temp files on your pc. Just "save as" from there. |
 | stec wrote on Jan 15, '08, edited on Jan 15, '08 Well I didn't start this boycott thing but I certainly did jump on the bandwagon. I just copy & pasted this message from someone elses site as are many users spreading the message.
Basically what they done is dangle a carrot to quickly gain users to their site and by gaining users to their site they gain investors and that carrot they dangled was the whole music uploads/downloads idea because without it they would have just been one of the countless social network failures out there in a severely overcrowded market. Music was key to their growth!
So once they got to the point that they were happy with their growth and the whole world was finally taking notice of Multiply they took away that carrot without any warning and upset their core user base. Basically they USED us all to get a foothold by false pretences and I would not doubt that there are some serious legalities at risk here or possibly class action suits because Multiply is profiting at the hands of their users now upset users that could turn on Multiply! |
 | uhmm.. but i love multiply
hehe |
 | lets do it! fuck capitalism! |
 | agree......MP sux now...... |

 | Yeah..let those MP Capitalism fuckers clearly know whos in charge here n whos the Man..Yeah..common Multipliers..boycott MP\m/.. |
 | yeah upload is limited...SUCKZ lol |
 | theres no such thing as free music!! you want good music.. you pay for the music |
 | stec wrote on Jan 15, '08 I download music first then I listen to it for a while usually on a playlist on my computer or on my ipod and see if it grows on me and if it does and I really end up liking it I make my trip to the music store to make my purchase and show my support to that band/artist!
There is so much shit music out there today pushed down our throats by the big labels that todays music shopper have gotten into the habit of try before you buy and many of us try for a while before we actually make the purchase!
Then there is music I would never buy in my life but hell I will download it just to have it that is usually the Britney Spears type of crap!
But this is not about the morality or "sharing" music your either for the boycott or not if you are then show your support if your not then move along! |
 | We all support you Shawn! Yeah. Multiply is starting to get a lot stupid. Boycott is a good way to show them how shitty we really are. |
 | krail wrote on Jan 15, '08 they removed our freedom to download music... i agree with shawn! |
 | I agree with you! Boycott them! I'll repost it on my page! |

 | mikeabundo wrote on Jan 15, '08, edited on Jan 15, '08 You know, when Digg was threatened by the MPAA, they stood up for their customers. Multiply, on the other hand, just caved to EMI at their customers' expense. See, this is why Digg partners with CBS and The Wall Street Journal while Multiply scavenges deals with some third-world TV station. Even in the face of corporate copyright pressure, Digg actually has some goddamn respect for its customers. The business of consumer-generated media requires the balls to stand up for consumers generating media. Clearly, Multiply does not have the balls for this business. |
 | The circumstances in the Digg case were quite different, and Digg is in a totally different business than Multiply. What was your point? |
 | mikeabundo wrote on Jan 15, '08, edited on Jan 15, '08 The circumstances are exactly the same: corporate copyright pressure versus law-abiding customers. Digg and Multiply are both social media sites.
Again, my point: The business of consumer-generated media requires the balls to stand up for consumers generating media. Clearly, Multiply does not have the balls for this business. |
 | Digg hosts far less content than Multiply; the vast majority of its "media" is nothing more than links to stuff elsewhere. It is a totally different business model.
Oh, and have you noticed how Digg handles music? Maybe Multiply's the one with the balls. |
 | If Multiply had any balls before, they're gone now. |
 | Multiply's still allowing uploading of music. Multiply's still allowing streaming of music. That's more than Digg's doing, right? |
 | I'll be sharing this with the other multipliers. |
 | ane ngga ikut-ikutan loch, wekkekekkekekk |
 | hmmmmm.......guys, whatever it takes.....I'm in. |
 | If the problem with the music features was illegal file-sharing, Multiply could’ve processed DMCA takedown notices the same way YouTube does, weeding out piracy while keeping Multiply musicians happy. Instead, they globally cripple their features at their customers’ expense. |
